Note: This medication DOES NOT 100% PREVENT the spread of HIV, it simply decreases the chances of you contracting or spreading the virus. Even if you choose to use PrEP you still need to use contraceptives and practice safe sex. Speak to your doctor or Legacy for more details.

In order for PrEP to be effective you must take the pill daily and practice safe sex.

Legacy is a clinic to find PrEP in Houston. To learn more call Legacy at 832.548.5221 or visit their PrEP information page.

nPEP Intervention

nPEP is an intervention that’s meant to protect you against the spread of HIV AFTER you have been exposed to the virus.

If you have had sex, been sexually assaulted or shared needles with someone who has the virus nPEP could be a good option.  It is best that you take nPEP no more than 72 hours or 3 days after potentially being exposed to HIV.

Note: Just so we are crystal clear. Neither PrEP or nPEP are substitutes for safe sex. Always protect yourself.

Whether you are sexually active or believe you already have symptoms of an STD, testing isn’t something you want to put off.

YES its scary to even consider the thought contracting an STD, but even more frightening to think about the consequences of an untreated STD. Increased risk of contracting HIV, endangering a pregnancy, becoming infertile or worse infecting someone you love.  These are all reasons that you want to get tested on a regular basis.

There are so many opportunities for STD testing in Houston that it’s no excuse for not knowing your status.  If you have not been tested use either the map or list of STD testing locations above to find a site near you.

If you cannot access a Houston STD clinic, but have questions contact Planned Parenthood’s Sexual Health Hotline at 800.230.7526.
