10 Low Cost Psychiatric Clinics In Houston To Treat the Uninsured

You don’t have to suffer alone with a psychiatric disorder, because no matter your financial situation there are plenty of low cost psychiatric clinics In Houston to help you overcome all of your problems.

This article will briefly summarize some of the psychiatric services that local agencies provide.

The best way to overcome your problems is to simply take action and this can start by contacting some of the psychiatric clinics below.

Before going any further lets first discuss the difference between psychiatry and counseling.

Do You Need Psychiatry or Counseling?

There are many ways to attack mental health issues…

Some people use psychiatry or counseling. Others combine the two.  Everyone is different so the method you choose is something you’ll want to discuss with supportive family members and your doctor.

To select the best form of treatment for your situation, it’s important to understand the differences in psychiatry and counseling.

What is Psychiatry?

Psychiatry is practiced by a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is a doctor who prescribes psychiatric medications to patients.

Typically you won’t receive lots of “talk therapy” from a psychiatrist. They are more focused on providing you with medications. If you need talk therapy a psychiatrist can refer you to someone like a counselor.

What is a Counselor?

A counselor’s primary focus is providing talk therapy.

Counselors cannot prescribe medication, but they too can refer you to a psychiatrist if you need medications.

If you only need talk therapy head over to our article on Low-Cost Counseling in Houston to see your options.

    Hi Nick

Myself and my husband are moving to Houston with work for two years in April. Our 24 year old son has aspergers and although he can’t stay with us for the whole two years, he is planning to come and stay with us for a few months while we are here. . He is currently struggling with his diagnosis along with depression and often uses alcohol as a crutch to lean upon and feel “normal” he realises he needs support and help and we were wondering if he could avail of these services while he is staying with us. He is an Irish citizen and we are prepared to pay obviously. We will have medical insurance but obviously that will be no use to him. Could you please advise. The conclusion at the end of the page is very simple
But as a mother, very comforting.
    Kind regards
    Gràinne calder

im looking for a low cost psychiatrist in the houston area. i have anxiety and depression. i really would appreciate if someone can contact me.

    • Nick Bryant Post authorReply

Hi Earl, have you contacted any of the agencies listed above?

Also if you have health insurance consider contacting the number on your card. If you have health insurance its a good chance that they pay for 80% (the coinsurance) of the cost of a psychiatrist visit while you may only pay for 20%.
