Cheap Counseling Houston: How To Find Low Cost Houston Counselors
Affordable therapy is available to anyone, and in this article, I will share a number of places that you can visit for low cost counseling in Houston. Contrary to what many believe…
You can get access to therapy even if you are uninsured or currently out of work.
The clinics in this article operate on what is called a “sliding scale“. This simply means they will bill you based on your income…whatever that income is. While health insurance is not needed, it’s accepted at most of these clinics, so these are also good options if you have coverage from your job.
The bottom line is whether insured or not, if you are seeking individual therapy, couples therapy, family counseling, or something else, these are places that you can contact to find guidance for some of the issues you are dealing with.
Before providing you with affordable/free therapy options in Houston, let’s first talk about the difference between psychiatry and counseling.
What is the difference between Psychiatry and Counseling?
There are many ways to beat a diagnosis of depression.
Some rely on psychiatry, others use counseling, and some use a combination of both. Everyone is different, so consult with your family and your doctor to determine which is best for you.
A counselor’s primary focus is talking to you to help you overcome your problems. This is commonly referred to as “talk therapy”. Unlike psychiatrists, counselors and therapists cannot prescribe medications.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is an effective way to break the cycle of negative thoughts. A therapist can help you with this exercise.
Talk therapy helps by assisting you with processing negative thoughts, looking at life from a different angle or discovering more productive ways to react to events or toxic people in your life.
If counseling sounds like a starting point for helping you overcome your problems, the rest of this article will provide you with plenty of options for low cost counseling in Houston.

Conclusion
I cannot guarantee that calling one of the therapists above will solve your problems. I wish I could, but that’s just not the case.
That being said, I believe you accomplish more with movement over meditation, simply meaning you need to take action to have a chance at overcoming your problems.
Find a therapist or clinic that interests you, plant the idea in your head that this will work out, and call them for an appointment. Don’t second guess yourself or hesitate due to “analysis paralysis”; just make your move and see what happens.
Lastly, if you suffer from suicidal thoughts, you can find help by calling the Harris Center helpline (24 hours a day) at 713.970.7000. This number is staffed by trained counselors who can help you if you are suffering from suicidal thoughts. You can also find help by contacting 911 or visiting the Neuro-Psychiatric Center at 1502 Ben Taub Loop if you feel that you are in a crisis.
I wish you the very best of luck with everything you are going through if you have questions, you can drop them in the comments, and I will follow up with you soon.

This is probably the best website I’ve been on for a comprehensive explanation of available counseling in the area. It makes my work so much easier than tracking it myself. I only wish other major cities in the state would follow your example.
