Hello. I appreciate the information and direction in your article. I am studying the RMP and pathway to passage on a state-by-state basis. Do you know the bill numbers (or gave copies of the enabling legislation) for VA, MA, Mi, IL, RI, CA, AZ, and MI?

Do you know of any states that introduced RMP legislation that ultimately failed? Also, I’ve heard some states have passed legislation affirmatively banning the possibility of RMP in the state. Do you know if this true? If so, any idea which states?

Hi Julie, thanks for the follow up and the work you are doing to learn about this program. As someone who works in Texas (where SNAP beneficiaries cannot buy hot food) its definitley needed.

Looks like California had an Assembly Bill (AB) 942 that established the RMP program.

I couldnt find specifics on the other states regarding the legislation that introduced the RMP into each state but each state (like Arizona) does have a paged dedicated to explaining the program.

Also I’m not aware of any states that have tried implementing the program. I recently learned about this when researching why Texas does not allow SNAP holders to buy fast food.

I would say if you are interested in getting periodic updates setup a Google Alert and it will email you anytime there is a mention of the RMP program. This is how I stay up to date on some of the resource that are out there.

Julie, please keep me updated on your research and if there is anything I can do to help just let me know, I like topics like this.

      Take care!

      Nick

It all depends on if you live in a state that participates in the Restaurant Meals Program…

Texas does not participate so no one in Texas with SNAP can purchase fast food. Now if someone in California, Arizona, or the 4 other states that allow SNAP beneficiaries to buy fast food then there is a chance you can use food stamps to buy Papa Murphy’s. It also depends on the specific Papa Murphys chain because they have a say in whether they want to accept SNAP benefits.
