Community COVID Housing Program: Helping Houston Families Avoid Homelessness During The Pandemic

In this guide, I will talk to you about a Houston housing resource for families that have been financially impacted by the COVID 19 pandemic. That resource is called the Community COVID Housing Program or CCHP

The COVID 19 has led to financial hardships for many families. According to an ABC 13 story, this pandemic has resulted in more job loss than the Great Recession and oil/gas downturn in the 1980s combined. This undoubtedly will have an impact on the need for emergency housing programs like the CCHP.

I’m Nick Bryant, founder of HoustonCaseManagers.com, where we help healthcare professionals and citizens connect to housing resources in the Houston area.

Today I will tell you about a housing program that was created by Coalition for the Homeless to help families who are currently experiencing homeless during the COVID 19 pandemic.

What Is The Community COVID Housing Program? (Coalition for the Homeless)

The CCHP is a housing program that helps families in Houston avoid homelessness. The purpose of this program is to provide a safe place to stay for families which will limit the spread of COVID 19 Harris County Texas.

This program was created by the Coalition for the Homeless, City of Houston, and Harris County to aid individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness. The Community COVID Housing Program will use $65 million to protect 5,000 families from the economic effects of this pandemic.

Who Will This Houston Housing Program Help?

The Community COVID Housing Program will help the following individuals/families:

  • People who are currently experiencing homelessness. This includes individuals who are living in shelters or on the streets.
  • It will also help people who have become homeless as a result of the COVID 19.

What Type Of Help Will The CCHP Offer?

The main goal of this program is to help individuals in Harris County to avoid homeless, which will in turn limit the spread of COVID 19 in Houston. In addition, this program also has a goal to:

  • Reduce chronic homelessness and homeless encampments in Houston
  • Provide help to individuals in the unincorporated areas of Harris County. See this map of unincorporated cities in Harris County Texas
  • Create roughly 150 jobs.

Local Agencies That Are Partnered On This Houston Housing Help Program

Here is a list of agencies that are partnered with Coalition for the Homeless on this Houston COVID 19 housing program.

If you are currently receiving services from any of these agencies and need housing help, consider speaking with them about any assistance they can provide.

How To Apply For The Community COVID Housing Program? (Coalition For The Homeless)

To apply for this COVID 19 housing program in Houston you will first need to get a housing assessment. You can get an assessment for the CCHP at any of the following agencies:

Need Help Paying Your Rent In Houston?

If you currently have a place to live you may not qualify for the CCHP according to the Coalition for the Homeless website. It states that the CCHP is for people who are currently experiencing homelessness

Good Morning Nick. On your webpage you show rent and utility assistance for the East Harris unincorporated area -Baytown Resource Assistance Center. FYI: This organization provides ‘only’ utility assistance for the areas indicated. LoveNetwork provides rent assistance…both organizations are located in Baytown but services a part of east Harris county. Our non profit (Talent Yield Coalition sponsor of Marcelous-Williams Resource Center) is located in Highlands and provides Disaster Recovery Advocacy, Basic Needs and Expanded Special needs thru case management. The world of information constantly changes in the social social arena.
