This is some really good information about women’s shelter. It is good to know that it would be smart to consider what the shelter can help women with. It is interesting that you can go to ones that specialize in helping women with divorce or sexual abuse. That is good to know if you need to find a shelter to stay at.

    • Nick Bryant Post authorReply

Hi Emily, thanks for the kind words and the work you do!

It takes time and lots of effort to pick yourself up once you’ve hit rock bottom, but I’ve learned that many of these shelters have lots of supportive programs for the homeless. It may not be perfect but these homeless shelters are doing the best they can to help these people.

  2. REMONE Brown 346 277 3300 Reply

Mr. Bryant I need your help. I’m homeless and need your help I have to go to orentation tomorrow, at memorial Hermann hospital. I don’t have a place to stay right now I am staying with my mom who is 69 and live in a 55 and up complex

    • Nick Bryant Post authorReply

Hi Mrs Brown. I would advise you to try and stay with your mom until you can firmly get on your feet. If staying with her in the 55 and up complex will not jeopardize her housing, definitely ride that out until you have some savings.

If that’s not an option and you have no income, you’ll have to contact those homeless shelters in Houston daily. One day they won’t have space, then the next day you can get in, so again call daily.

Finally, once you start to generate income two options for you are:

      * New Hope Housing. These are SRO rooms in Houston. They may have waitlists so call to find out.
      * Rooming Houses in Houston. Last checked I think rooms were going for about $100 to $150 per week.
      * Good Samaritan Homes are group homes or shared living spaces.
      * Contact a Houston apartment locator to see if they can work with your income.
